The Bowen Therapy technique was created by Tom Bowen (1916-1982), a manual therapist from Geelong, Australia. It creates the stimulus for drug free pain relief.

The philosophy of Bowen Therapy is that ‘the body can heal itself of most problems’ - it just needs help to initiate and focus a “SELF HEALING” process. The most common and best example of self healing is that of a broken arm. If we take a broken forearm, (single bone - nice clean break) it would be splinted and after a short period, typically 6 weeks, the splint would be removed and the bone would have healed. Seemingly such a simple thing, is an incredibly complex healing process. The splint only immobilizes the bone. The rest of the healing process has to be done by the body - which has to recognize there is a problem, initiate a process to fix it, without causing new problems (like growing bone spurs), and then know when to ‘turn the bone growing process off’ and not leave a ring of excess bone around the arm.

Bowen Therapy, a DRUG FREE healing process, stimulates the body’s innate power of SELF HEALING. Bowen Therapy, is characterized by “treating the cause of the problem rather than just the symptoms,” leading to a high success rate. Typically 8 of 10 see a better than 75% improvement in their condition - a high proportion are fully resolved - even those with long standing conditions that other techniques have failed to resolve. Results are achieved quickly (typically 4 sessions for a ‘structural’ condition, non structural conditions may take longer) and the results are typically long lasting.

The Bowen Therapy technique is a ‘stimulative’ rolling motion using the pads of the fingers. The therapist rolls, very gently, ACROSS muscle, setting up small vibrations in the muscle that stimulate and focus the SELF HEALING process. Bowen Therapy does not adjust, manipulate or force the body to change - the body knows what to do and gets on and does it. Bowen Therapy sessions are deeply relaxing and typically improve night-time sleep. Bowen Therapy is unlike any other manual technique and is performed through your loose fitting clothing.
